Sale of Dog & Hedgehog - Press Release

Press Release from Property Adviser Christie & Co
Dating back to the eighteenth century, the pub is rich in traditional British character and features a spacious beer garden which overlooks the site of the Battle of Bosworth. The heartbeat of the pub is the large central bar servery with seated bar areas (50 covers). The main restaurant area contains around 70 covers across the ground floor, while an additional restaurant area contains a further 30 covers.
The Dog & Hedgehog sits on a site of approximately one acre, comprising the large historic public house, two residential cottages, several outbuildings and garages and a four-bedroom duplex apartment above the pub acting as Managers’ accommodation.
Located in the village of Dadlington, in the Hinckley & Bosworth District of Leicestershire, the property benefits from trade from visitors to the village, which is close to the Battle of Bosworth Heritage Centre, as well as local attractions such as Twycross Zoo.
The pub was purchased 15 years ago by Sandra MacDonald but has been closed following the retirement of long-standing tenant, Bill Reinking, after which Christie & Co brought the pub and two residential cottages to market with vacant possession.
Sandra MacDonald, the former owner of The Dog & Hedgehog, comments, “Our favourite thing owning the pub has been interacting with the locals, an amazing, eclectic group of people, during celebrations like the Queen’s Jubilee, Richard III reburial with the beautiful countryside at the doorstep.
“A sale was just a matter of time as, after 50 years in the hospitality business, my operating partners felt it was time to retire. What’s next for me is to fulfil an ongoing wish of completing two historical books that I have been working on for years.”
Jonty Green, Business Agent – Pubs & Restaurants at Christie & Co, comments, “This is terrific news for everyone involved. The pub has strong ties to the local community, and we received many enquiries from former customers who were keen to see it reopen. I’m delighted that the sale has completed and look forward to seeing The Dog & Hedgehog thrive once again.
“The transaction also marks the end of Sandra’s 15-year ownership of the pub. It has been a genuine pleasure to support her throughout the process and to work closely together during the six months since the sale was agreed.”
The Dog & Hedgehog was sold at an undisclosed sum, off a freehold asking price of £1,500,000.
