Campaign for Real Ale

Monday 12 June 2017

  • The Belper Arms in Newton Burgoland now has 5 regular beers and one changing beer which are all selling well. They have also recently passed the Cask Marque inspection.

  • The Gate Hangs Well at Carlton has been redecorated.

  • The Red Lion, Barwell had another new licensee at the end of May.

  • Having announced his intention to leave, the landlord of The Black Horse, Sheepy Magna has found a potential buyer for the lease.

  • At the Greyhound, Hinckley, the 2 front bars have been painted and refurbished with new lights, carpets, seats reupholstered and tables re-varnished.

  • The Clarendon, Coventry Road is still closed while they wait for the insurance to be sorted out. The fire was at the back so the whole building is closed.

  • The White Swan in Stoke Golding will be holding a beer festival on 16, 17 and 18 June 2017. Live music on Friday night will be with The Craic - very popular Irish band, Saturday night is an acoustic set from James Edgar and Sunday lunchtime there is a bouncy castle to keep the kids busy while dads are trying the beer on Father's Day!

And news from neighbouring Leicester CAMRA Branch:-

  • The Real Ale Classroom in Leicester opened a second pub on Station Road in Lutterworth on Saturday 3 June. It is a three roomed pub in a similar style to their first pub with the beers listed on a blackboard and served direct from casks in a cooler behind the bar. They also have a garden and smoking shelter.

  • According to this month’s Leicester Drinker, The Blue Boar will be opening its second pub in June. The Ale Stone will be on Aylestone Road, Aylestone near the Co-op.
